Man cannot fly, but he has wings

These verses of the Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko give wings and turn into concreteness small gestures of solidarity towards people and communities that have been besieged, attacked, struck by the wickedness of man for months. The continuation and escalation of the war caused by the Russian invasion is exhausting the Ukrainian population, and support is more important than ever. Even a van load of pediatric medicines can have a significant impact. 

Thus was born a collaboration between Hesperia Bimbi onlus and Costa Family Foundation. The former has been engaged for months in concrete activities to help the Ukrainian population through direct contacts with pediatricians in the hospitals of Lviv and Kiev. For that purpose two ambulances loaded with medicines and a warming cradle were donated. The latter on the other hand has been supporting for more than a decade solidarity projects dedicated to women and children living in poor conditions in Uganda, Togo, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and India.

Hesperia Bimbi onlus has as its local contact in Ukraine the Sambir monastery, a few dozen kilometers from Lviv. The Sambir community has quickly become a center for collection and distribution of humanitarian aid throughout the region. And it is the community itself that is asking for aid: the demand for medicines, first aid kits, medical equipment, food, baby products, mechanical equipment, small power generators and even vehicles is continually increasing.

This gave rise to the idea of buying a van, loading it with pediatric medicines contributed by the "All Together with Joy" association and taking it to Sambir with the help of volunteers where it will be delivered and donated to community leaders.

The goal is to continue in the coming months with this project by purchasing other basic necessities and to establish an increasingly solid and effective relationship with synergies between Hesperia Bimbi onlus and the community of Sambir.
