Kasimeri School Dormitory
Uganda
A safe dormitory for over 400 children: With the Kasimeri Project, we are providing students at Kasimeri Primary School with a dignified and safe environment in which to grow and study. Find out how your help can make a difference.
Kasimeri Primary School is located in Moroto District, in the Karamoja region—one of the most vulnerable areas of Uganda.
Founded in 1965, the school currently hosts nearly 2,000 students, over 800 of whom live on campus thanks to its boarding program. However, the current facilities are in critical condition: the main boys’ dormitory suffers from severe structural damage, poor hygiene conditions, and serious overcrowding.
Through the Kasimeri Project, promoted by Costa Family Foundation in collaboration with ISP in Africa, we aim to build a new boys’ dormitory to ensure a safe, dignified environment that meets national standards.
Project Objectives
The initiative has two main goals:
-
Reduce overcrowding and improve living conditions: the construction of a new dormitory will reduce pressure on the existing structure by 50%.
-
Ensure safety and hygiene: the new facilities will provide adequate sanitary conditions and better living spaces for the more than 400 male students residing at the school.
Planned Activities
The project includes the following phases:
-
Demolition of the old dormitory: the current structure is compromised and cannot be safely renovated.
-
Construction of a new building: designed to meet the standards set by the Ugandan Ministry of Education for boarding schools.
-
Purchase of 110 bunk beds: to offer children a proper place to sleep and avoid precarious arrangements, such as sleeping in classrooms.
-
Training for students and school staff: educational programs focused on personal hygiene and the proper management of school facilities.
Project Impact
The construction of the new dormitory is not just a building intervention—it is a long-term investment in the future of the Moroto community:
-
Greater access to education: having a safe place to stay reduces the risk of school dropouts.
-
Improved quality of life: students will have dignified spaces to sleep and study.
-
Sustainability: the project is designed to align with local policies and ensure lasting management of the facilities.
