Sustainability is not only the main proposition of the Costa Foundation’s helping projects, it is also a great component of the Hotel La Perla philosophy. Human dignity, solidarity, ecological sustainability, participation and transparency are corner posts, on which the whole La Perla family is orienting.
A trip to North-India has changed Michil Costa’s life drastically. There, in Dharamsala, he got to know Jetsun Pema, sister of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and manager of the children helping project Tibetan Children’s Village, where Tibetan orphans find rescue. From 1964 to 2006 she has been president of the Tibetan Children’s village, from 1990 to 1993 Secretary of Education at the Tibetan Government in exile. Her people call her “Uma La”, the “great mother”, in honor of her activity.
Meeting such a charismatic woman, has brought Michil Costa and Joe, to a decision, wanting to help more. In 2007 the Costa Family Foundation has been funded. „The destiny of the exiled Tibetans has touched me“, Michil Cosa says. “And as so often, it’s the children needing most of the help. What’s the point of gaining the whole world if you then lose your soul? If you burn your bridges behind you, you have to be a good swimmer, a very good one. For their rights we want to fight. Me, you, all of us need to want it.”
The Costa foundation endorses the Tibetan Children’s Village in realizing different projects, between them the reconstruction of an orphan’s home, a girl’s boarding school and a whole floor at the Tibetan college.
Now the Costa Family Foundation has widened her horizon to Africa. A sister of the Canossa-Fraternity, suor Patrizia, has contacted the Costa foundation asking for help for a school project in Togo. Again for the Costa family it has been priority to help. Through donations, for some children in Togo it is now possible to go to school. Through the “Maratona dles Dolomites” bike-marathon, Michil Costa got to know some further helping projects in Uganda. After a trip of a delegation, a new adventure has started: a school project and an agro-environmental education project have been started in Uganda. Giving help to self-help. Very important: at the Costa foundation nothing is wasted. Every cent reaches the indigents.
Sustainability is not only the main proposition of the Costa Foundation’s helping projects. Sustainability also is a great component of the Hotel La Perla philosophy. For the Costa family and their staff the Common Welfare is not only nice theory. Human dignity, solidarity, ecological sustainability, participation and transparency are corner posts, on which the whole La Perla family is orienting.
With Zucchero, Hannes Jaenicke and many others, the Costa Family Foundation has found engaged testimonials for her activity. Hannes Jaenicke, an important German actor, is treating soil exploitation, animal- and environmental protection, as main themes in his books. “Through an article I got to know about the Costa family, the Hotel La Perla and their foundation. I find their sustainability concept and their activities in India and Uganda great. And as I go to Alta Badia for skiing since a young teenager, I find it great to sustain the Costa Family Foundation’s projects.”
