right as Christmas arrives, here comes our newsletter dedicated to happy smiles. A smile is a delicate and spontaneous act of happiness. Sometimes as quick as a flash, as short as a sigh. It doesn’t take a lot to give a smile, a great gift in the life of everyone more even in the life of those persons, children, women and elder persons, who have quite few to smile about. We propose to good reasons:
The first brings us to the children in Togo, affected by a fatally frequent malaria. Together with Suor Patrizia, Maristella and Federica we have a project going on: Blood is life. Maybe you don’t know that malaria is the most widespread parasitosis worldwide and one of the most common symptoms is anaemia. Having clean blood at the disposal to donate to affected patients, is of vital importance in a land where 90% of the population have malaria. Together with Suor Patrizia, Maristella and Federica we have prepared a safety-kit for blood donations. The kit costs 43 Euros and can save lives.
The second reason for a smile brings us to Afghanistan, a land tortured by everlasting wars, where particularly women live in a terrible situation, exploited, emarginated and unprotected. This is why we are going on to sustain the project “A goat for an Afghan Women”, trying to give some dignity, self-esteem, future and to promote a more united and solidary society.
Thirty women with particularly family needs have been choses in the province of Kabul and Parwan: everyone of them will be given a goat. The goat is the starting point for an own micro-activity producing an income: usually a goat brings 3 to 5 kg milk a day, part of the milk can be sold (1 litre gives around 50 Afghans = 70 Euro cents), while the rest remains as a precious contribution to the nourishing of the family, particularly for the undernourished children.
150 Euros are necessary to buy a goat and to ensure it is handed over to one of the chosen women giving a concrete perspective for her future and the future of her family.
