Building a future
Uganda
In Kampala, in the Namuwongo slum, over 25 women have learned to sew and run a small business. We buy the products they make — because the best way to support someone is to buy what they know how to do.
Who they are
Costruirsi un Futuro is a project by ISP in Africa, active in the Namuwongo slum, one of the largest informal settlements in Kampala. Over 20,000 inhabitants, widespread poverty, almost no public services. For women raising children alone the situation is particularly difficult: without professional training, finding dignified work is nearly impossible.
The project responds with two concrete tools: first a course in managing small businesses — savings, investment, entrepreneurial mindset — then three months of tailoring training led by Bertin's Congolese Tailor. At the end, each woman receives a sewing machine, fabric and all the materials needed to start her own work. Not a subsidy. A trade.
How we support it
Casa Costa Foundation ETS supports this project by purchasing the products made by the seamstresses of Namuwongo. It is not a donation — it is a purchase. The proceeds go directly to the women, remunerating their work and their skill.
Why we do it
It is the model we believe in: autonomy built through real skills and a real market, not through assistance. Buying what someone knows how to make is the most honest way to recognise their value.
